INTRODUCTION ;

Temple Bank School is the only Special School in Bradford which educates Blind and Partially Sighted children and young people. Schools like ours are very rare in the U.K.

We have Nursery, Primary and Secondary School departments and we have special links with Newby First, Leaventhorpe Middle and Rhodesway Upper Schools.

Children come here from all parts of Bradford Metropolitan District and we also provide for children from other Local Education Authorities, such as Leeds, Wakefield, Barnsley and Kirklees.

Temple Bank provides a full timetable of subjects up to GCSE level as well as highly specialised study skills and personal independence skills training. Much of our technology is geared to helping individuals gain access to the printed word and to help them with the problems that Braille presents. We can also help children who have additional difficulties, (as well as visual difficulties.)

Our aim is to help youngsters develop their potential so that they can progress to further education and vocational training and eventually realise their own ambitions as independent adults.

The Support Service based at the school provides diagnostic, assessment, advisory and teaching services for children who are visually impaired; in mainstream educational settings and special schools; and children not yet of school age.

The school and service are managed and organised on an integrated basis, to best serve the special educational needs of children who are visually impaired.
